The Common Problems During Spo2 Monitoring

The common problem during the spo2 level monitoring

1, the spo2 sensor can trace the pulse, but the screen does not show the spo2 level and pulse

 Reason:

  • Too much movement or restlessness makes the spo2 parameter cannot find the suitable wave shap2.
  • Too low PI (the low temperature of lamb or poor peripheral circulation) makes the spo2 parameter cannot track the spo2 saturation and pulse rate.
  • The sensor is damaged
  • Inaccurate sensor position
  • The dyes in the blood, such as methylene blue or fluorescein, nail polish on fingernails influence the measurement accuracy.
  • Too long spo2 sensor wearing affects blood circulation leading to poor accuracy.
  • Have blood pressure measurement at the same arm causing poor finger peripheral circulation for inaccurate measurement.

How to deal with such problems:

  • Keep patient in a still status or position the spo2 sensor to lamb with less movement to ensure the sensor is in stable condition or have a test with healthy people or change the spo2 sensor if necessary;
  • keep the measured lamb warm;
  • Avoid light interference;
  • Change the finger after a long time measurement;
  • Avoid blood pressure measurement at the same arm;

2, The rapid change of the spo2 level and the unstable signal is probably the excessive movement of the patient or the interference of surgical devices. We should keep the patient in silent condition and away from the instruments.

3, The screen displays the fall of the spo2 sensor.

If we place the spo2 sensor in an accurate position with excellent performance, we can check if it has a good connection to the monitor. In clinical, the most common problem is the splashing spray into the sensor connector.

If there is a splash into the sensor connector, we can dry it with clothing. It would be normal in use in a short time.

At present, the use rate of monitors in the treatment of hospitalized patients is getting higher and higher. And at the same time, monitor failures due to various reasons are also increasing. As a precision electronic device, the monitor has a low failure rate. Most failures are caused by improper operation, improper settings, or factors, such as patients. We have various ways to adjust back to normal.

At the same time, with the more and more sophisticated monitoring equipment, we are required to continuously improve our comprehensive quality of nursing staff on how to use the monitoring equipment correctly and effectively. Nursing managers should plan and systematically train nurses in related aspects. And nurses should continuously improve their business level to improve the ability to troubleshoot and reduce the incidence of failures. At the same time, nurses should observe the psychological activities of patients and use knowledge to provide care to patients. So that patients can be monitored by monitors in the best psychological state.
